Backend Engineer
About Corintis
Corintis offers innovative microfluidic cooling technologies for AI chips/GPUs and CPUs used in data centres. Working with many of the world’s largest tech companies, our solutions improve compute sustainability and tackle the excessive electricity consumption associated with data centre cooling, which consumes more electricity than New York and London combined.
Ranked as the No.1 Engineering startup in Switzerland for 2025, Corintis offers a friendly and team-oriented workplace, bringing together over 105 people from over 35 nationalities to solve the most significant computing challenges of tomorrow. Based in the EPFL Campus in St. Sulpice, we are closely connected to the local ecosystem and are located a few minutes walk from Lake Geneva.
The Role
Corintis is seeking a Backend Engineer to help build and operate Glacierware, our platform for designing and simulating microfluidic cooling for high-power chips. This full-time role is an opportunity to build reliable services at the intersection of software engineering, scientific computing, and semiconductor technology. You will join the Glacierware team to develop the backend services that support engineering workflows, simulation, and optimization. You will work on APIs, data models, real-time updates, and the orchestration of long-running solver jobs on external compute resources. You will also help improve the reliability, observability, and maintainability of the platform.
Our backend includes Java Spring Boot services, a Python/FastAPI service, MongoDB, and WebSocket/STOMP-based updates to the web application.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain REST and WebSocket APIs used by the Glacierware application.
Extend the scheduler, monitors, and task workers that coordinate simulation and optimization jobs on external compute resources.
Support asynchronous workflows, including job tracking, parameter sweeps, and project accounting.
Design and evolve MongoDB document schemas and change-stream pipelines that keep the application up to date.
Maintain and improve the Python/FastAPI service alongside the Java services.
Improve test coverage, monitoring, logging, and deployments to make the platform more reliable and easier to operate.
Review code, share knowledge, and collaborate with frontend and simulation engineers on end-to-end features.
Requirements
At least four years of experience building production backend services in Java and Spring Boot.
Experience designing and maintaining APIs and distributed services.
A solid understanding of asynchronous work, including polling or queue-based workflows.
Experience designing schemas in MongoDB or a comparable document database.
Enough Python experience to maintain a FastAPI service.
Knowledge of security architecture and the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including secure development practices.
A collaborative approach to code reviews, testing, and problem-solving.
Fluent in English.
This Is a Great Fit If You:
Enjoy working in a busy start up environment
Feel comfortable working autonomously
Have a curious mind that likes solving complex problems with simplistic solutions
This Won’t Be the Right Role for You If:
You prefer working remotely
You prefer highly structured, corporate environments with fixed processes.
